No. The strength of the snow is enormously high. For this purpose, snow groomers were driven over the igloos for testing – they held up without any problems.

Smoking is prohibited in all igloos.

You can usually stay in a sleeping igloo between December and April of the following year.

Engstligenalp is located in the Bernese Oberland on a beautiful plateau near Adelboden.

Arrival by car: Enter Adelboden at the traffic circle, turn left and drive 4 kilometers into the valley until you reach the cable car station.

Arrival by public transport: from Frutigen by bus to bus stop “Adelboden Oey”, change bus there and get off at the last stop “Adelboden Unter dem Birg”. The bus stop is located directly at the valley station of the cable car.

The cable car ride up to Engstligenalp takes about 7 minutes.

The meal in the fondue igloo can be ideally combined with an overnight stay in our mountain hotel / chalet Wildstrubel or also in the sleeping igloo. The fondue igloo is located right next to the mountain hotel – so nothing stands in the way of a convivial evening on our alp!
When booking online, you can book the fondue à discrétion under additional services (CHF 39 per adult). We will gladly reserve you the table in the fondue igloo.
By the way: if you have a voucher for the fondue igloo, please make a note of this when booking. Your voucher will of course be credited to you.

To the accommodation offer

Value vouchers or sleeping igloo vouchers are redeemable at the reception. Visitor’s tax is not included in the vouchers and must be paid on site (adults CHF 5.20 / children 6 – 15 years CHF 2.10 per night). Fondue Igloo vouchers can be redeemed at the ticket office at the valley station. For all vouchers we are grateful if this is noted at the time of booking or reservation.

The last ascent up to Engstligenalp departs at 5.00 pm (during the summer vacations at 5.50 pm). If you would like to stay overnight with us and arrive later, please contact us by phone (033 673 22 91) or by e-mail.

Check-in is possible from 15:00 – 17:00, check-out must take place by 10:00.
To ensure a stress-free check-out on the day of departure and to avoid unnecessary waiting times, we already charge the accommodation costs at check-in. Consumptions will be collected at the dinner.

The season always lasts from December to April. Due to weather conditions, a closure may be moved forward or back a few days.

You sleep on a bed of ice. This is reinforced with wooden pallets and is also lined with a mattress and furs, so you do not get cold from below.

Dogs are welcome in the rooms of the Berghotel and in selected Comfort rooms and cost CHF 20 per night. Dogs are not allowed in the other rooms of the Chalet Wildstrubel, in the Sennhütte and in the sleeping igloos.

• For children under 6 years old the overnight stay is free of charge
• An igloo for single use costs CHF 498 per night
• An igloo with one adult and one child costs CHF 498 per night (additional children depend on the price table)

The prices are exclusive of tourist taxes.

The sleeping igloo is usually open for you from December to April of the following year. This information is not binding, because the weather plays a big role.

If you arrive before 3 p.m., your luggage may be deposited in our luggage rooms in the Sennhütte and Chalet Wildstrubel. The same applies in case of a later departure. Important: the luggage is unattended and we can not guarantee. There are lockable lockers for valuables at the top station on the upper floor.

Breakfast will be taken at the mountain hotel Engstligenalp (from 07.30 – 10.00). There you can warm up and fortify yourself for another exciting day on Engstligenalp.

Of course, there are sanitary facilities. The toilets and showers are located in the basement of Chalet Wildstrubel, which is right next to the sleeping igloos. There are also emergency sleeping places, should it get too cold for you in the sleeping igloo.

The igloo hotel offers you a total of six igloos. Four of these are designed for a maximum of two people and two igloos for four people.

The temperature in the adventure igloo usually varies between -3 °C and +3 °C. That’s why we recommend you to dress warmly.

An extra warm down sleeping bag incl. Silk sleeping bag is provided to you by us. In addition, we recommend you thermal underwear and a hat, so that you do not get cold at night.

The à-la-carte dinner at the Berghotel is served between 18.30 and 20.00 and is not included in the room rate. Please inform us before arrival if you have any allergies or food intolerances. Vegan food is also possible by prior arrangement.

Breakfast is served from 07.30 – 10.00.

You can easily reach the sleeping igloo by cable car. Afterwards, you only have to walk about 5 minutes before you can check in at the mountain hotel Engstligenalp for the adventure igloo.

Breakfast is included in our overnight prices. A table for dinner (à-la-carte) is automatically reserved at the Berghotel when you book your overnight stay. Alternatively, dinner in the fondue igloo is also possible from mid-December to the beginning of April. This can be booked directly when you book your overnight stay. If you have a voucher for the fondue igloo, we will of course charge you the corresponding amount.
